West Metro Fire Rescue said the fire started at a home in the 12100 block of West Copper Drive on Sunday morning.
LITTLETON, Colo. – West Metro Fire Rescue is investigating what caused a fire that sent one person to hospital and a dead dog Sunday morning in Littleton.
According to WMFR, several neighbors called 911 after seeing smoke and flames coming from a house in the 12100 block of West Cooper Drive. When firefighters arrived at the house, it was completely engulfed in flames.
Five people, two dogs and a turtle were inside when the fire broke out. All five people were able to get out of the house safely, WMFR said.
WMFR spokeswoman Ronda Scholting said one of the residents tried to go back inside the house to rescue one of the dogs. Firefighters were able to rescue one of the dogs and the turtle, but the other dog was unable to escape, Scholting said.
One of the five people was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, firefighters said.
Firefighters returned home later Sunday when the fire reignited in the attic, West Metro said.
Firefighters said the first fire started at the back of the house under a covered patio. The cause is still under investigation.
