Dog rescued from Monaghan pound hours before he was shot

An animal charity has thanked the public after a dog that had been tossed into the pound was saved from slaughter.

y Lovely Horse Rescue expressed relief that the pup was being placed into foster care just a day before he was put down due to overcrowding at Monaghan County Council’s Dog Pound.

The dog was in “urgent” need of a home after spending more than two weeks in the pound and a call for help was quickly sent online to save the animal.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday, the charity shared a quote from the book which read: ‘Status now urgent. 16 days in book no home delivery.

“This guy may only have a few days of safety left. The Monaghan County Council Dog Pound is currently very busy and the council requires empty/available space for the admission of new dogs.

“This invariably means the dogs that have been the longest draw the short straw. This guy is currently the ‘short straw’. Very urgent need for a foster or rescue offer in the next few days so please share. Save this little boy.

However, in an update, My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue announced that they were able to save the pup thanks to “public support”.

“We have received urgent messages regarding this poor dog at the pound who was due to be put down tomorrow,” the charity said while sharing a photo of the adorable dog.

“Thanks again to the support of the public, we are able to get this dog out of the pound and into foster care.

“Again, we can’t do everything we do, without your support guys!!! Thank you so much!!!”
