And so I’ve been doing it for 16 years,” Marcheck said. “When you sit down and think about the magnitude of this, it’s something that I never imagined I wanted to do and could do, but with hundreds of volunteers, I was able to do it.” She thinks she’s rescued about 5,000 dogs over the years, but to save more, she says, she’ll need more help. “This is not a plea to save our rescue. All the dogs here are very well cared for. after, but it’s a plea that to continue we need help and even to save more dogs we need more help,” Mareck said. She said the reward is more than the dogs’ lives saved, it’s the people’s lives they have enriched. “People will tell you that you gave us the greatest gift you could ever have. The 40 dogs and puppies inside Fluffy Dog Rescue in Hartland are given new lives, spared a likely death sentence at Alabama dog pounds.
“These are dogs that wouldn’t have survived, and they are finding wonderful, loving forever homes thanks to us,” said Fluffy Dog Rescue founder Lori Marcheck.
When Marcheck adopted his own rescue dog from Alabama, it opened his eyes to the widespread practice of euthanizing stray dogs in the South.
“And I said if there were that many wonderful dogs, I could do more than what I was doing. And so I have — for 16 years,” Marneck said. “When you sit down and think about the magnitude of this, it’s something I never imagined I wanted to do and could do, but with hundreds of volunteers I was able to do it.”
She thinks she’s saved around 5,000 dogs over the years, but to save more, she says, she’ll need more help.
“This is not a plea to save our rescue. All the dogs here are very well cared for. They are walked, fed, cleaned up after, but this is a plea to carry on, we need help and even to save more dogs, we need more help,” Marcheck said.
