LA Animal Services launches plea for adoption of dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters – NBC Los Angeles

LA Animal Services is asking Angelenos to open their hearts and homes to dogs and cats in need of adoption, offering discounted rates at the agency’s six locations Saturday and Sunday.

“Our shelters are full and need YOU to help the dogs find homes,” according to an agency statement released Friday.

As National Pet Month draws to a close, LA Animal Services officials said adoption fees for all dogs will be $51, not including license, and $75 for puppies on Saturday and Sunday.

Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived entirely thanks to a grant from the ASPCA.

LA Animal Services also urged people who may not be able to adopt to consider fostering a pet “to give them a temporary break from kennel life.”

A list of adoptable pets is available at laanimalservices.com/adopt/.

Dogs and cats adopted by the agency join their new families already neutered or neutered, vaccinated, licensed and microchipped, according to the agency.

Additionally, adopted dogs are entitled to free training classes at the Paws for Life K9 Rescue People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills.

LA Animal Services locations operate walk-in every Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but operate by appointment Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed on Mondays.

The centers deal with adoptions, placement and delivery of the owner. Sick or injured animals will be admitted without an appointment.

Appointments can be made at laanimalservices.com/ or by calling 1-888-452-7381.

The agency’s website also includes a shelter locator for its centers in East Valley, Chesterfield Square, North Central, West Valley, West LA and Harbor centers – among other information.

The agency said social distancing will be observed and face coverings will be required at all of its centers. Visitors will also be required to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours of entry.

“Make this Memorial Day unforgettable, both for you and for a new furry friend, by adopting a pet,” the statement from Animal Services reads.
