Former Washington Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica, help the Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) big dogs get adopted. The couple will cover adoption fees for dogs 30 pounds and over through Friday.
The couple have four adopted dogs of their own and are “big dog lovers”. One of their dogs, Rafi, recently injured his leg while running and bit Scherzer’s right hand, Max Scherzer tweeted.
In 2021, the Scherzers paid pet adoption fees to the Human Recue Alliance over a one-week period as a “thank you” to the DC community for supporting Scherzer during his seven years of playing with the Nationals. He is now with the New York Mets.
The Mets and Nationals faced off recently at Citi Field earlier this month. The Mets next face the Nats at Nationals Park from August 1-3.
