A photographer named Wesley White was traveling in Belize when he decided to kayak on a small island in Thatch Caye. What he didn’t know was who he would find on his kayaking trip. While kayaking, White saw an emaciated dog on a small island.

“Out of the corner of my eye I saw his tail wagging,” Wesley told The Dodo.
White called to make sure no one was on the island, but got no answer. That’s when he knew he had to save the dog. He took an old bathing suit and picked up the dog to take him back to the kayak.
He feared participating in a rescue in a foreign country and had only 36 hours left before he had to leave Belize. To her surprise, everyone wanted to help her with the dog. They gave him dog food and helped him get to the local vet.
The vet stayed in touch with Wesley to let him know the dog, now named Winston, was recovering and ready to move into a foster home. After two months in foster care, the dog was ready to make the long flight to Dallas to finally find White.
Winston has met his new dog siblings and is living a happy life with White in snowy Montana!
